Solid maple throughout, including mattress slats. A 20" panel near headboard allows room for drawers to clear your side tables. Shown here in white lacquer; you may prefer yours with another color, or a natural wood finish.

Designed for a long, narrow bedroom (perfect for a railroad apartment perhaps - shown here in queen size), the drawers at the foot of this bed are an incredible 36" long! Dividers help organize your many belongings - great for a room with little or no closet space. Two additional smaller drawers near the head are great for your bedtime necessities. Simply push to open the drawers. Shown in curly maple.

4. The Gordon Platform Bed - Organic Simplicity

The Gordon platform bed in pineThe Gordon platform bed - rustic looks, artistic vision

Soft, sumptuous pine boards and frame give this platform bed (shown here in California king size) lots of unique, local character. White pine has large red knots and the sapwood turns an interesting blue -- colors you won't see on any other pine furniture. It smells great, too.

Use your own trees. This customer had big sugar maples in front of their Catskills country house. The contractor who felled them said "don't bother, they are too rotten for lumber" - but we went ahead and had them sawn. The photos don't do the headboard justice: an incredible array of colors, patterns, and depth. Being so old, the rock-hard maple polished up like Italian marble and needs nothing more than wax to seal it. Shown here in full size.

Have kids - or kid at heart? This is what your (inner?) child might dream about. This clever bed features working shutters, a half-height front door, windowsills for placing toys, and two closets (one with doors). A wraparound staircase leads to the bed, which has a “balcony” safety rail. The headboard includes a shelf recessed into the chimney for glasses and a book.

My customer’s kids liked it so much, her son was jealous of his lucky sister. The possibilities are endless: a castle, an airplane, a boat… just ask your kids for their own ideas!
